The popular show is based on the book series written by L.J. Smith and stars Paul Wesley (24, Army Wives), Nina Dobrev (Degrassi: Next Generation), and Ian Somerhalder (Lost) and has sunk its fangs into a sizable piece of the vampire and supernatural pie. Complete with a love triangle and an improved mythology in the town of Mystic Falls, the sophomore season of The Vampire Diaries has struck a new chord with critics and viewers alike.
Another series the ladies can’t get enough of is the scandalous lives of privileged young adults from Gossip Girl portrayed by Blake Lively (Green Lantern), Ed Westwick (Chalet Girl), Leighton Meester (Entourage, The Roommate), and Penn Badgley (Easy A). Season four of the show has revolved around Serena’s (Lively) relationship with Ben, her former teacher and while fending off Juliet Sharp’s (Katie Cassidy) bitter agenda. Lily’s (Kelly Rutherford) comeuppance has also been a ratings boon as have the main cast members attending Columbia University. Speaking of guilty pleasures, 90210 starring Annalyne McCord, Shenae Grimes, and Tristan Wilds, returns for its fourth season after posting strong DVR numbers
Ordered for both the fall and winter is America’s Top Model, which will return in the fall with an All-Star Edition that will bring back models who became names on and off the runway during their original seasons. Details surrounding the returning cast, judges and prizes will be announced at a later date.
Finally in Supernatural, everyone’s favorite monster-hunting brothers return for their seventh season, its second after creator Eric Kripke said that the show was originally planned for just five seasons. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) relationship has been explored in great detail this current season and has been full of highlights with Castiel (Misha Collins) and fan-favorite grandfather Samuel (Mitch Pileggi). The move to Friday nights was originally thought to be the death notice for Supernatural but instead it made the CW incredibly competitive on the TV equivalent of The Negative Zone; in its year-to-year gains on Friday nights, 66% in adults 18-34 and 60% in total viewers thanks to Supernatural.
